What type of Shoulder pain are you experiencing?

  • Shoulder Pain when doing normal activities
  • Limited range of motion
  • Stiffness of the shoulder
  • Swelling of the joint
  • Tenderness around the joint
  • A feeling of grinding or catching within the joint
shoulder dislocation
  • Severe pain at the shoulder joint.
  • You will have great difficulty moving your arm even a little bit.
  • If the shoulder is touched from the side, it feels mushy, as if the underlying bone is gone (usually the humeral head – top of the arm bone – is displaced below and toward the front).
frozen shoulder
  • Shoulder pain; usually a dull, aching pain
  • Limited movement of the shoulder
  • Difficulty with activities such as brushing hair, putting on shirts/bras
  • Pain when trying to sleep on the affected shoulder
  • It is typically worse early in the course of the disease and when you move your arm. The pain is usually located over the outer shoulder area and sometimes the upper arm.
rotator cuff injury
  • Pain in the upper and outer shoulder. Pain can also be creeping down on the arm.

  • Ordinary acts such as wearing clothes and combing the hair can cause pain

  • Weak shoulders shoulder joints produce sound ‘explode’ when they move the shoulder.

How Doctors know your medical condition?

X-ray or CT Scan

This may be used to check for a fracture or arthritis.

What Doctors do to relieve your Shoulder pain?

Physical therapy. Physical therapy to strengthen the muscles of the rotator cuff should be started. If the pain persists or if therapy is not possible because of severe pain, a steroid injection may reduce pain and inflammation enough to allow effective therapy.

Injections

Corticosteroids. Injections of a corticosteroid drug into your knee joint may help reduce the symptoms of an arthritis flare and provide pain relief that lasts a few months. The injections aren’t effective in all cases. There is a small risk of infection.

Hyaluronic Acid. This thick fluid is normally found in healthy joints, and injecting it into damaged ones may ease pain and provide lubrication. Experts aren’t quite sure how hyaluronic acid works, but it may reduce inflammation. Relief from a series of shots may last as long as six months to a year.

Surgery

Shoulder Arthroscopy. In this procedure, your doctor will cut through tight portions of the joint capsule. This is done using pencil-sized instruments inserted through small incisions around your shoulder.
